To install QBasic on Ubuntu (10.4lts)

This is just a short tutorial, that shows how to run my programs on an Ubuntu operating system.

To first run my programs, certain programs need to be installed, the first one being Dosbox.

Dosbox is a utility that sort of emulates a Windows Dos operating system on Ubuntu.
You can install Dosbox from the Ubuntu Software Centre.
Just type Dosbox into the search bar and install the program when it appears.

Then you must obtain the QBasic program.
There are multiple websites that you may get this from.
Just simply save the file- Don't try and open it!

Then...
Open the downloads folder where the QBasic file has been downloaded to and it will probably be a .Zip file.

Right mouse click on the .Zip file and select 'Copy'.


Next...
Close the Downloads folder and Right mouse click on your desktop and select 'Create new folder' and name it 'qbasic'.

Next...
Open the newly created folder and Right mouse click and select 'Paste'.
You should now see a file called qbasic.Zip - which is a copy of the one from your Downloads folder.

Next...
If all is well, you should be able to Right mouse click on the .Zip file and select 'Extract here'.


Next....
At least two or more files should now appear.
One should be named qbasic.exe
You need to Right mouse click on this file and select the 'Permissions' tab at the top.

Next...
You should change all the 'Access' boxes to 'Read and Write' and Tick the box that says 'Allow executing file as program'

 Next...
Select the 'Open with' tab at the top.
Choose the 'Add' button and a new windowbox will open.

You then need to choose 'Use a custom command' and enter 'dosbox' into the textbox.

Then click the 'Add' button.
Close off the permission box.
If all has gone well, you should be able double click with the left mouse button on the qbasic.exe file and a new window should open up.

You can now click on it with the left mouse button and press 'Alt and Enter' to make qbasic go into full screen and enjoy the wonderful world of programming just like back in the old days of the classic spectrum/bbc/msx home computers.
